In short: the App Store and Google Play version of Nefesly has no server of its own. Your night recordings, notes and results stay on your phone. No data is sent to us, to advertisers or to anyone else.

What is processed on the phone

• Night audio. During a recording the microphone listens for snoring and for moments when breathing is not heard. Audio is processed and stored on the phone; you choose in Settings how long it is kept. When that time is up the audio is deleted and the drawing of the night stays.
• What you enter. Evening notes (caffeine, alcohol and so on), your wake up note, dream notebook, treatment tracking.
• Ask Pofi. Questions you type to Pofi are searched on the phone, in Nefesly's own articles. Questions, answers and the chat are not sent anywhere and are deleted when the app closes. For questions like "Tell me about my night", the summary of your latest night is read on the phone only.
• Voice questions. If you like, you can ask by voice. Your speech is turned into text on the phone only, by the phone's own on-device speech recognition. The audio is not recorded and is not sent to us, to Google or to Apple. If the speech model for your language is not on the phone yet, it is downloaded once from Apple or Google the first time you use it; your voice and your question are not sent while it downloads. If there is no on-device recognition for your language, the voice button does not appear. On iPhone, the permission prompt shows Apple's general text saying speech data is sent to Apple; Nefesly requires on-device recognition, so your speech does not leave the phone.
• Apple Health and Apple Watch. If you allow it, night readings from Health (heart rate, oxygen, respiratory rate, heart rate variability, breathing disturbances, wrist temperature, sleep stages) are read and shown next to what the phone heard. If you turn it on, only time in bed is written to Health. Night movement from the watch also stays on the phone. Health data is never used for advertising, marketing or any other purpose and is never shared.
• Health Connect and Huawei Health (Android). If you allow it, night readings from your watch are read and shown next to what the phone heard. From Health Connect: heart rate, oxygen, respiratory rate, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, skin temperature and sleep sessions. From Huawei Health (Huawei Health Kit): heart rate, oxygen, wrist temperature and sleep stages. Only the time around the recorded night is read. Nothing is written to either. A summary of the night (for example lowest oxygen, median heart rate) is calculated from these readings and kept on the phone. This data is never used for advertising, marketing or any other purpose, is never sold and is never shared. You can withdraw access at any time in the Health Connect or Huawei Health settings; reading stops from that moment.
• City. For dawn prayer and sahur times you pick your city from a list. No location permission is requested.
• Your own files. Documents and audio files you add for listening and the photo you choose for a clock face are only copied into the app's folder.

Backups

Night recordings, notes and data read from Health are not included in iCloud or Google backups and are not moved to another phone. If you change phones, this data does not come along.

Sharing

An audio clip, share card or specialist summary (PDF) leaves the phone only when you choose to share it, with the app you choose. After that, the rules of that app apply.

What is not there

• No account, sign in or registration.
• No ads, analytics, crash reporting or tracking code.
• The app has no server to connect to. The only exception is the optional sound packs on iPhone, which come through the App Store; no information reaches us.

Deleting

"Delete everything" in Settings removes all nights, audio, notes and settings. Deleting the app removes them as well. We hold no copy, so deleted data cannot be recovered.

Other people's voices

If someone else is in the room, their voice may be recorded too. If you want to record your partner or anyone else, tell them first and get their consent.

Research version

There is a separate research version, given by invitation, for scientific studies; it is not in the app stores and asks for separate, explicit consent inside the app before anything is sent. This page describes the store version.

Data read from your watch is not sent in the research version either; it is removed before the research package is made and stays on the phone.

Children

Nefesly is not intended for anyone under 16.

Changes

If this page changes, the new version is published here with its date. If the app ever starts sending data, this will be stated clearly here and in the app first, and it will not happen without your consent.
